If you’re looking to go “green” with your new countertop, natural stone, such as granite and marble, are as green as it gets, as they’re right from the Earth. Not only that, granite countertops can pay for themselves when it comes time to sell your home.
According to a 2003 cost vs. value report in Remodeling Magazine, homeowners who remodeled with natural stone recovered the following percentages of remodeling costs at resale:
- Bathroom remodel-upscale: 92.6%
- Bathroom addition-upscale: 84.3%
- Kitchen remodel-upscale: 79.6%
Additionally, in a Consumer Reports study of the materials used in kitchen countertops, granite had the highest number of “excellent” ratings.
